● After ending the previous year with their first appearance at “COUNTDOWN JAPAN 12/13”, DIR EN GREY strenuously resumed their live activities, as if they were trying to fill in their absence period due to Kyo’s health problems. First, they held their “TOUR 2013 IN SITU-The Depiction of Reality-” (Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka for a total of 4 shows), giving continuation to the activities of late 2012.
●On April 3rd their new work 『THE UNRAVELING』, which is way too intense to be considered just a mini-album, was released. Along with the title track 「Unraveling」, it included several re-arrangements / re-recordings of pasts songs.
●After this release, they started their “TOUR2013 TABULA RASA” from April to May performing in 7 major cities of Japan in a total of 13 shows. Also, as the tour entered in its final stage, they had the opportunity to perform at the first Japanese edition of Ozzy Osborne’s festival “Ozzfest” on May 12th, sharing the stage with bands like BLACK SABBATH, TOOL, and STONE SOUR.
● DIR EN GREY held a live show at Shibuya Public Hall on May 24th limited to the purchasers of 『THE UNRAVELING』 [Limited Order-Only Deluxe Version] only. The live footage of this show was later released in the bonus DVD included in the [Limited Order-Only Deluxe Version] of their next single 『SUSTAIN THE UNTRUTH』, which was going to be released in January 2014.
● In June, they went back to Europe to perform shows in Germany and France as part of their “TOUR2013 TABULA RASA”, and also performed at the major “DOWNLOAD” festival taking place in Donington Park, England, for the first time since 2009. They also performed at “NOVA ROCK” in Australia.
● In September they started the “TOUR2013 GHOUL”. Splitting the shows in two sub-titles, “mazy” and “instinct”, it included concerts held in both smaller live houses and large standing concert venues. This time, they toured 9 cities for a total of 15 shows, including a “Fan club members only” one.
● On September 25th,『TOUR12-13 IN SITU-TABULA RASA』 documentary was released in both DVD and Blu-ray.
● As part of the “TOUR2013 GHOUL”, in November they toured North America for the first time in 2 years. This time they performed a total of 14 shows which started in Dallas on November 3rd and ended in Los Angeles on the 24th of the same month. This tour made the news thanks to its stage effects, background footages and Kyo’s corpse-look make up, exactly the same as the domestic tour held from September to October of the same year.
