●The year 2014 was a memorable year for DIR EN GREY as they celebrated their 15th major debut anniversary. However, the band did not spend the year in the festive mood of the anniversary, but rather filled it with energetic creative works and original live shows. First of all, on January 22nd they released the single “SUSTAIN THE UNTRUTH”. The title song, created in a session-style way by all the members, opened a new door for DIR EN GREY’s future while reminiscing their most fond and emotional origins.
●After the release, in February the band went on a 6 show Fan club-only tour called “FINEM LAUDA -｢a knot｣ only-“, held in Osaka, Nagoya and Kawasaki. After this they didn’t miss the opportunity to fly to Australia to play their first Australian tour, with an appearance in between the shows at the large-scale festival “SOUNDWAVE 2014”.
● On March 8th and 9th they held a 2-nights performance at Nippon Budokan. This show was held as the final stage for 『DUM SPIRO SPERO』 (their album released back in August 2011), moving the hearts of the whole audience, who felt like DIR EN GREY will soon start a new chapter. Just 4 months later, in July, the footage of this show was out under the title of “DUM SPIRO SPERO AT NIPPON BUDOKAN”.
● In August, they started the 11 shows-tour (including 2 Fan Club-only ones) “TOUR14 PSYCHONNECT -mode of “GAUZE”?-, that made the news among fans since its announcement. As you can assume from the title, the tour took back their major debut album “GAUZE”, released back in summer 1999, as its main theme. This may be considered a comeback to celebrate their 15th anniversary, but it also showed how much the band had matured and evolved, while keeping on their solid determination.
● Of course, DIR EN GREY continued working on the creative side even in the middle of their several live performances. Finally, on December 10th they announced their long-awaited new original album “ARCHE”, that was going to be released 3 years and 4 months after their previous one. This album’s title means “roots” in Greek, and includes a wide variety of songs, while still being focused on the theme of “pain”, which has been the root of their expressive style since the very beginning of their career.
● The “TOUR14-15 BY THE GRACE OF GOD” started on November 17th, just before “ARCHE” was released. In that while, they also performed at ROTTENGRAFFTY’s 15th Anniversary event “Porno Chou Toukyuu 2014” (Porno Ultra Express 2014) on December 23rd, and at the “COUNTDOWN JAPAN 14/15” on the 29th. DIR EN GREY finished 2014 right in the middle of their tour, starting 2015 with the same strength.
