● In may, the album “Withering to death.” was released in the US. To promote it, DIR EN GREY performed at 3 major cities in the same country in March. The mini-tour was a whole success, and DIR EN GREY received many attention from the influential personalities of the local music scene, having even the leading magazine “Billboard” featuring a special article on them.
● DIR EN GREY toured Europe from May to June, not missing the opportunity to perform at the “ROCK AM RING” and “ROCK IM PARK” festivals for the second time in a row and became the first Japanese artist to perform on the main stage, along with bands such as GUNS N’ ROSES, TOOL, and KORN.
After going back to Japan, they released their single “Ryoujoku no Ame” in July, and then performed a 2 nights show at Nippon Budokan on July 31st and August 1st. Tickets for these 2 shows sold out in less than 45 minutes.
● Right after that, they flew back to the US to join KORN’s “The Family Values Tour”. DIR EN GREY performed 31 shows with a total affluence of more than 600,000 people.
Back to Japan, they went on a domestic tour, performed at Japan’s largest metal festival: “LOUD PARK 06” and then focused on the recordings for their next work.
● Their music video「朔-saku-」got first place by the audience choice on MTV USA’s show HEADBANGERS BALL Top 25 Metal Videos contest, getting on top of many big international artists. Of course it is the first time a Japanese artist to get such a high rank on any international metal show of this kind.
